Day 16

Creative challenge was to see what I could make with folded, double-sided paper. I punched out 2 scalloped circles, folded each in half, cut up half-way on one and cut down half-way on the other and then intertwined them together.

"I don't base my beliefs and values on what people accept or don't accept, but on the Word of God." Getting my norms and values from the world and society is not for me.

Day 15

Creative challenge was to use pop-dots. They are under the apron I cut out with my Cricut.

"Looking back over the month, I see that even though I have a routine:
- Iron on Monday
- Vacuum downstairs on Tuesday
- Laundry on Wednesday

etc., each day is a little different from the one the week before.

Day 14

Creative challenge was to use either newspaper clippings or cut-outs from a magazine. Since I have so manyhome/office/organization magazines, I had plenty of pictures to choose from.

"If you keep phone numbers on slips of paper scattered all over, you will not be able to find the one you want...PUT them in your address book right away!" Al & Mindy stopped by and wanted some one's cell phone number, which I KNOW I have but could not find. I had to call another friend to finally get the number. Since "organize" is my favorite word, you would think I would have taken care of these things!

Day 13

Creative challenge was to use buttons. The brown cut-out under the buttons is hard to see in the pic, but shows up great in real life.

"I learned that if you are going to drive 50 minutes to take a scrapbook class, make sure the class is still taking place." When the time was scheduled for the class, everyone knew there was the possibility that it would be changed...but did I bother calling and checking????? NO! But it was a nice day for a drive and I managed to spend some money at the scrapbook store, so it wasn't a total loss.

Day 12

My creative challenge was to write my journaling with something other than what I was using every day....I used a dark green marker.

"I learned that when it's the weekend and you're waiting for a very important call from the doctor, it won't come and patience will be tried."

David needs an appointment with the neurosurgeon (after fighting with the insurance company to pay for an MRI). We waited from Wednesday through Friday for them to call, knowing they would not be calling on the weekend. Monday will bring better news, I'm SURE of it!

Saturday, September 11, 2010

My creative challenge was to write my lesson as an entry in a dictionary.

"What I learned today:

list (list) n.// a series of names, numbers, etc. set forth in order.

Don't leave home without it!"

I am a list-maker...there is no question about that. I always have pieces of paper with things to do, things to buy, things to repair somewhere around the house. All our packing for vacations is on lists on the computer (my list, husband's list, together list and extra list)....see I am rather obsessive about lists. I always take a list when shopping or otherwise I will undoubtedly come home without the 1 major thing I went to get.

Day 10

My creative challenge was to use leaves or trees somewhere on the layout.

"I learned that having a daily routine actually sets me free instead of tying me to my tasks." Working in my "task" cards really lets me know what I've got planned for the next day. I don't have to sit around and worry that maybe I should be doing (for example) laundry because I know laundry is always done on Wednesday. I don't fret that I haven't dusted today because I know that on a planned day during the week it will be my day to dust. Once tasks are done, I am free to do whatever I want and I don't have to feel guilty that I should be doing some "chore". This system works for me.

Dayt 9

Creative challenge was to use stripes. I used striped paper, striped ribbon, stamped stripes on paper and cut out stripe hearts....think that is enough stripes???

"I learned that the simple beauty in our room in late afternoon is enough to make me thankful." I LOVE spending time in our room when it gets past 3:30pm. I go up and read and just enjoy the beauty of the day. This simple tone (the sunshine, colors, trees, shadows) all make me realize how very appreciative I am of what I have.

Day 8

Creative challenge today was to include a flower motif. Like the easy challenges.

"I learned that Susie's hair and where she naps each day is "transient". The hair can be cleaned up...and tomorrow she will sleep somewhere else. Let the little irritations in life go....they aren't worth getting upset over.

Day 7

My creative challenge for today was to use 3 bold patterns on the page. I took matching paper with a solid. Used my "From My Kitchen" Cricut cartridge for the tomato.

"I had to relearn that when I make green fried tomatoes, always turn on the fan or the smoke detector will go off." I only make green fried tomatoes once a summer and we absolutely LOVE them. It never fails that it is a lesson that I have to relearn every year....much smoke equals "BEEP" from the smoke detector.

Day 6

My creative challenge today was to use polka-dots so I used an OLD "Dotta-Riffic" marker (don't think Zig makes these anymore), my EK edge punch and a circle sticker of a flower.

"I learned that David will pull over to the side of the road, without complaining, so I can get a picture...even making the suggestion himself sometimes." I love taking pictures of wildlife and these geese were in town when we went to the grocery store. My husband is very understanding of my obsession with picture taking and scrapbooking. Fortunate me!

Day 5 l

"A leisurely drive through the country to hopefully get some great pictures works better when I remember to put the memory card back in the camera." I took the card out the other day to download some pictures, went to turn my camera on 3 times today (all the while wondering why it would not turn on) when I looked down and saw the little door open where the card goes. OOPS! Better check next time before leaving the house.

My creative challenge today was to use ribbon on the page, which I am already doing every day. So I added a little extra to the letter "c". I will add a picture of my camera inside the envelope, which I already have taken and developed.

Saturday, September 4, 2010

Day 4

My creative challenge today was to make my layout somewhere else in the house. I admit that wasn't much of a stretch, but here it is using my NEW Cricut cartridge "From My Kitchen".

"Baking zucchini bread, always grease once....flour twice. This avoids disasters!"

My first attempt at making zucchini bread (we had a LOT of zucchini from the garden) was a mess. I greased pans, floured and let sit for awhile before adding batter. When I went to remove them, everyone of them was stuck in the pan. I have found that if, right before pouring in the batter, I flour a 2nd time, everything slides out nicely. Yeah!

Day #3

Today's creative challenge was to use a stamp that I haven't used in a long while. Well, how about a stamp that I've had for a long while but NEVER used??? I had a lot to pick from!

"Talking to women from other parts of the US and other countries makes me realize that we are all pretty much the same...."

Today was the live chat for this class. A lot of women from the UK and US both. But we were all talking about the same things in our lives. It's comforting to know that I'm not that much different from every other woman and yet unique.

Day #2

My "creative" challenge today was to use something non-scrapbooking. I took this leaf die-cut from my Cricut and painted it with fingernail polish. Of course, I also learned today not to paint with one hand while not paying attention to the other! I had to clean up fingernail polish off my work tableLOLOLOL!

"I learned that when you adhere a wall cling-on to the wall you should ALWAYS use a level."

Had ordered a wall cling-on, it arrived and the color did not work at all. Took it down, reordered something else and was so excited when it finally arrived I just put it up as quick as I could. The end result.....a crooked cling-on. Oh well, it's our bedroom and upstairs so no one but the husband and I will ever see it....but still!

Day #1 of LSNED

I am going somewhat with what Shimelle is planning on doing for an album. I am using envelopes. Since we have went to paying all our bills online, I now have an abundant supply of envelopes that I will never use. My picture will go inside with more explanation of what is going on about what I have learned that day.I'm also using OLD supplies and buying nothing new for this class. I need desperately to use up some of my old scraps and make room for NEW!

My "creative note" for today was to use something that flies....angels, butterflies or birds. I chose this bird sticker I had.

Here is my first post of Learn Something New Every Day....a Shimelle class.

"Cookies with lots of sugar on top cannot be baked at 400 degrees! Lesson Learned!"

I made these cheesy pinwheel things with puff pastry and they were great. David said how wonderful they would be if I used sugar and cinnamon instead. So I gave it a try...forgetting that with the sugar on top, I should probably turn the temp down. Well, burnt cookies were the result. The rest went into the trash and I had to air the house out of smoke! I'm still gonna give it a try, but need to rework the cooking a little. What could I do but laugh....LOL!

I didn't take a picture, unfortunately, but from someone else posting on the forum I decided to look up a stock photo and it will work just as well for my lesson.
